North West Lightning and Storm Photos
It was Friday 9th January 2004, and the first storm of the day developed west of Kununurra in the late afternoon. It was only weak and dissipated right on sunset, but the rainbow it produced was second to none! Whilst photographing it I could clearly see larger storms developing to the SE, close to Lake Argyle, and decided to give chase. In Kununurra I realised the storms were already in full swing and I had a perfect view of them from the ski club at Lake Kununurra. There I stood for some three hours as lightning lit up the sky in front of me allowing me to capture many photos of positive strikes and internal lightning illuminating the storms' structure. Later I drove down the Victoria Highway towards the Northern Territory border and photographed closer strikes whilst standing on the side of the highway. After 5 hours of constant lightning I hit the pillow too exhausted to chase yet another line of storms which rolled through Kununurra early the next morning!
