Perth Lightning and Storm Photos
I took the following lightning photos over Lake Monger on the night of 14th December 1998. I must admit I was not terribly proactive that night and didn't realise storms were approaching until well after sun set. Consequently I missed the first line of storms that crossed the coast at dusk. The second line of storms came through at about 10pm and I positioned myself on the lake's shore to photograph lightning as the storms approached.
I took the following photos later on that same night as another line of storms approached my house in Osborne Park. I found a nice open spot overlooking some market gardens and took photos as the storms approached. After these storms passed thunderstorms continued on and off into the morning, at which time a jockey was tragically killed after being struck by lightning.
After a long chase in the Wheat Belt on 22nd April 2001 I returned to Perth only to find a line of storms approaching Perth from the west. The storms were very fast moving so I didn't position myself in time to shoot lightning as they approached. In the end I tried to take photos from my balcony as the storms moved overhead, and captured this crawler as it flashed over Balcatta. Click Here to view the storms I photographed in the Wheat Belt earlier that day.
