Wheat Belt Lightning and Storm Photos
I took the photos below whilst storm chasing near Kellerberrin in Western Australia. They show the development of a late afternoon thunderstorm south of Kellerberrin on 28th March 2003, and a sample of the eventual lightning show it produced. Given the behaviour of other storms earlier that day, which were quite short lived, I initially expected this cell to dissipate well before sunset, but the storm became quite long lived and severe, producing torrential rain, hail, 100 km/h winds, and a nice lightning show! I took the lightning photos below right on dusk as the storm moved past us travelling in a SSE direction. Further storms that night produced an even more impressive lightning display near Kellerberrin and Corrigin. Follow the Page 2 link above to view those photos.
