The 2003/2004 storm season finished on the same note as it started - quietly! A disappointing season overall with only three thunder days for Perth over the entire summer and less than 5mm of rain! We did however manage one final storm chase out to Bruce Rock on Monday 1st March. A severe thunderstorm produced a spectacular gust front just south of Bruce Rock. Here are a couple of examples.

The 2003/2004 summer has so far been very quiet around Perth, with only a couple of weak lunch time thunderstorms affecting the city to date. I do however have new lightning and storm pictures to show as I have been fortunate enough to go on a couple of very successful chases in the Central Wheat Belt and Central West regions of Western Australia, and a 10 day trip to the Kimberley region provided more photographic opportunities. During this two day chase I saw a spectacular lightning storm near Mullewa, hail storms near Mullewa and Northampton, and a huge storm near Badgingarra which featured a massive rain free base and a ragged rotating wall cloud. Here are some samples!
This was a fantastic all night chase during which Michael Fewings and I experienced around 6 hours of continuous lightning as we chased storms between Goomalling and Meckering. Highlights included a hail storm at Meckering and one of the best lightning displays I have ever seen. Here are some samples!
